At Mental Care Clinic, we believe in the power of evidence-based therapy to help individuals improve their emotional well-being. We are proud to offer our highly effective Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) group program starting on 29 March 2024. This comprehensive treatment is specifically designed to address emotional dysregulation and its impact on daily life. Guided by our team of experienced therapists, this 12-week program will provide a supportive and dynamic environment for participants to learn essential skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

What is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and how does it help individuals with emotion regulation?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a proven treatment for individuals experiencing difficulty regulating their emotions. Initially designed to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), DBT has been found to be effective in addressing a wide range of conditions where emotional dysregulation is a primary concern. DBT is an active therapy that requires client participation, skill practice, and application of new skills to real-world experiences. The research on DBT consistently shows reductions in self-harm and suicide behaviours, as well as decreased hospitalization frequency.

What does the DBT program at Mental Care Clinic consist of?

DBT is a comprehensive, multi-modal therapy, consisting of group psycho-education, individual therapy, and phone coaching. Participants attend two-hour group sessions per week, where they receive instruction and practice in four skill areas: Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Individual therapy sessions support clients in generalizing learned skills and repairing challenges as they arise.

More about Referrals and Rebates

While a referral is not mandatory to schedule an appointment, Medicare rebates can only be claimed once a GP Referral is obtained from your doctor.

If you are considering obtaining a referral, we accept those under a Mental Health Care Plan. The eligibility for such a referral will be determined by your General Practitioner or Psychiatrist.

As part of the Better Access initiative, Medicare will provide rebates for up to 10 individual sessions and 10 group sessions per calendar year.

Please note, if you've already claimed rebates for sessions with other allied health professionals (e.g., psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists) within the calendar year, those claims will count toward your maximum rebate limit for the year. We kindly request you to inform us about any previous claims so that we can accurately update our records.

Rebates are claimable post-payment of the full session fee. However, missed sessions or late cancellations are not eligible for rebate claims.

We process rebates on a weekly basis following the attendance of the weekly session. The weekly rebate amount stands at $34.80
